Dr. Stefano del Torso (MD)

Dr. Stefano del Torso was educated at the University of Padova Medical School where he has also obtained a post graduate degree in Pediatrics in 1979 and in Cardiology in 1985. Dr. del Torso has been a British Council scholar at the Brompton Hospital in 1980, then Fellow in Cardiology at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne in 1983 and Research Fellow in Pediatric Cardiology from 1984 to 1988 at the University of Padova. In 1995 he was a Visiting Physician at the Department of General Pediatrics, Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati USA . Since 1981 he works as a Primary Care Pediatrician in Padova and is a Clinical Professor at University of Padova Medical School. Dr. Stefano del Torso is at present Vice President of the European Academy of Paediatrics being also the International Relations Delegate for the Federazione Italiana Medici Pediatri, the professional organization that represents over 7000 Italian Primary Care Pediatricians working for the National Health Service. At present he is also the Chairman of the European Academy of Paediatrics Research in Ambulatory Settings network – EAPRASnet. Since 2008 the network has recruited primary care and general paediatricians from European and Mediterranean countries. The aim was to collect data originating from the primay paediatric care settings in Europe, by which data harmonization and optimization of the care given to children shall be achieved. He was President and Vice President of the Italian Society of Primary Care Pediatrics and is now the Delegate for International Relations of the Society. He has collaborated to create the Strategic Pediatric Alliance, a consortium among major European Pediatric Societies, Associations and Confederations. His main interests are Pediatric Research in Office Settings, Organization of Pediatric Primary Care and Quality of Care, Professional Development in different Pediatric Care models, Pediatric Residents Education In Community Settings , International Cooperation with developing countries and Development and Use of Electronic Medical Records. Last but not least he is the President of the Association CHILDCARE WORLWIDE, a non profit Association organizing humanitarian initiatives in developing countries focusing on Pediatric Primary Care in the Community as a strategy to fulfil developmental potential of children. Dr. del Torso has many publications to his credit in both national and international journals and has participated to many national and international congresses as Member of the Scientific Committee, Chairman or Speaker.
